Lauren and the Guys – Orlando Family Session

I’ve been colleagues with Lauren for years now, and I was very pleased to be asked to do a family session with her and her men. We met up at Orlando’s Loch Haven Park and made use of the amazing old oak trees there, along with the grounds of the Mennello Museum of American Art. Beautiful weather, a great-looking family and a fun time, I can never ask for more than that!

Being a princess isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
-Princess Diana

October is also when kids everywhere–well, my girls for sure–often refuse to wear anything but their costumes. But who can complain when the world is full of lovely little princesses, and Batman riding his bike around the neighborhood?

Sally’s Gang, Year Three! – Winter Garden Family Session

I met Sally and her lovely family at Lakeview Park in Winter Garden for our third annual family session. It’s pretty neat for me to see her kids growing up, especially the little ones since they change quite a bit from one year to the next! We had fun with gymnastics in the grass, a wobbly fishing pier, a few of the local alligators and birds, and general goofiness (which comes standard with all of my photoshoots, I must say).

Photo Friday: Choosing Hope

If you knew that hope and despair were paths to the same destination, which would you choose?
-Robert Brault, www.robertbrault.com

The other day I saw someone ask people to share an image that, to them, represented the concept of hope. This is the one that sprang to mind for me. What could be more hopeful than a happy baby, with a whole life full of possibilities ahead? I think, among many other things and perhaps above all else, a parent’s job is to give their children the tools they need to recognize and pursue their greatest hopes–and a place from which to launch their efforts to do so. In the end, I think Mr. Brault is correct–the choice is one we’re all given, every day in ways small and large. Here’s hoping we always make the right choice.

Kathy and Family – Orlando Vacation Session

It’s always a pleasure to be asked to spend a little time with an extended family meeting up for a vacation/reunion. That was the case recently with Kathy and her bunch–there was her and her sister, their parents, husbands, and adorable kids. It’s fun to watch generations getting together like that! We had a good time roaming around their resort for some photos to document the occasion. Though I will say it was a bit on the warm side!

Jessica, Neal and Kadence – Magic Kingdom Family Session

I met up with Jessica, Neal and Kadence at the Magic Kingdom for a very fun morning of rides and photos. It was 18-month-old Kadence’s first visit, and she was a bit overwhelmed by everything there is to see! She seemed to have a blast, though.. I think the Mad Tea Party was her favorite!

Photo Friday: Our Children’s Future

// September 9th, 2011 // No Comments » // Family Lifestyle, Photos

Orlando Family Photographer - Kelly Verdeck Photography

Our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children’s future. And we are all mortal.
-John F. Kennedy

I’ve been of a political mind lately, which is probably bad because it usually gets me nothing but distress. But I want, above all, for my kids to inherit a world worth having, and I fear we’re taking far too many steps in the wrong direction, and for the wrong reasons. Whichever side you’re on politically, I submit that the question we all need to be asking ourselves is whether our choices will make this world we’re borrowing from our kids a better place or not. If more of our politicians used that simple question as their criteria rather than only dollar signs, I daresay we’d be in a far better place.

There are children playing in the street who could solve some of my top problems in physics, because they have modes of sensory perception that I lost long ago.

It’s hard to believe, but our sweet little Amaryllis is already six months old! I thought I’d put together a collection of shots I’ve taken of her so far to see how she’s grown.

WDW Wednesday – Braver, Stronger, Smarter

// August 24th, 2011 // No Comments » // Family Lifestyle, Photos, Theme Parks

Orlando Vacation Photographer - Kelly Verdeck Photography

Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
-Christopher Robin to Winnie the Pooh, Pooh’s Grand Adventure

An older shot of our little Hallie, in the old Pooh play area that isn’t there anymore. She was only about 15 months old here, and now she’s 4. Just had her 4-year-old checkup today, as a matter of fact! They really do grow up so fast. I’m pretty glad we have a place like Disney World nearby to be a big part of their childhood.
